A friend just gave me his San Andreus, with the frame #10571. Can you tell
me the date of manufacture and any more info you might have. I plan to
rebuild the bike to as original as possible. I can reproduce the decals for
the bike.
Thanks for any info,
Bob M.

Hey Bob M,
Pretty hard with the records of old we have on hand. If you can throw a pic up though we should be able to place it for you.
As far as the decals go, are you saying you want to reproduce a set yourself? If so, yes, please feel free to do so.

I've sent a picture of my San Andreus if that will help date the bike.
Thanks for the ok to make new decals.
I have also sent a pic of my 1971 Stella I just finished refurbishing.
I made all the replacement decals. They are a combination of: water slide,
rub on, and stick on decals. I upgraded the drive train to 9-speed campy.
Thanks Bob M.Posted 6 months ago # | -
Hey Bob,
OK, looking at that frame, we have the very original sub-frame, old style pinch clamp pivot and canti mounts on the swingarm. The shock mount on the arm is also the original style and there is no triple clamp stop mount behind the base of the head tube.
The decal on the mail frame is also the very first MC did for the San An.
At a guess I'd say you have maybe a mid 90's frame there - a true classic. I am pretty sure that would not be the original shock but if it is, would place the frame as a mid 90's for sure. If it's a replacement for the original elastomer unit, then it could even be earlier. Either way, that is the first San Andreas.
The '71 Stella looks mint! The decals are great... a really nice restoration.

Good lord, those look like they might be early Magura Hydro rim brakes.
I love the vintage "downhill" setup.
I can't tell what the shock is, although a early Stratos or Cane Creek come to mind.
Maybe even Risse Racing. Now watch, he'll come back and tell me it's a Aftershock.
It's "old"... Robert Reisinger would be proud.
