Crash!Fresh news from a our SoCal HQ, we would like to make a warm welcome to Dave “Crash” Collins; long time friend of MC, underground race promoter, and now artist… Amongst other things, Crash runs a series of races in/around Bootleg Canyon, one of our favourite places to ride & home of the Interbike Dirt Demo (And spiritual home to our dearly departed friend Brent). We’ve been proud to help Crash make these races happen, as over the last couple of years they have gained a superb reputation for fun, clean and honest racing. We’ve attended as sponsors/exhibitors, sponsored the uplift trucks, given away prizes, and now were delighted that Crash has decided to come on board and help us out by hauling on one of our bikes. He’s recently kicked off the cobwebs and come out of retirement to race in a select few events, including the invitational race at renowned Woodward West, where he says “the bike handled Fricken Awesome!!” You can find out all about Crash Innovations over here If you take a close look at the photos, you’ll notice something pretty distinctive on the mainframe, some custom hand-painted artwork that I think looks pretty darn fine… We sometimes get asked the question “why doesn’t my bike have decals on the front frame?” Crash has answered that question; we’ve left you a blank canvas because you have to get inspired and make that bike your own! St Patty’s Day Feast
Mountain Cycle’s getting behind the ‘St. Patty’s Day Fest’ for the second year! From Bikemag.com: “The St. Patty’s Day Feast races at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, Nevada, will return for a second year of downhill mayhem on March 14-15, tempting riders to tackle the canyon’s ridiculously rocky terrain in pursuit of glory and some serious prizes. The bone-jarring DH course has been tweaked to include an exciting finish at Bootleg’s jump park, while the Super-D course has been significantly extended to include a super-fast finale of smooth, swoopy singletrack. “The Super-D course is a lot funner and longer than last year’s, and racers will be whooping and hollering all the way down,” said David “Crash” Collins, a former pro downhiller who is organizing the race for the second year. “The whole course is really fun—I’m laughing with a side ache by the time I’m done.” In addition to offering some of North America’s most heinous downhill riding, the race will also feature a formidable array of prizes, from CNC’d anodized aluminum trophies to a new Chumba Evo frame with shock that will be up for raffle. Aside from the payback purse, there will be a $500 cash prize for the fastest DH lap and $250 in cash for the fastest Super-D time, as well as giveaways from numerous Boulder City merchants. “So if there was a fast junior who had the fastest time, they could take the money from the big boys,” said Collins. “That almost happened last year. A junior expert was holding the fastest time until he was surpassed by [pro rider and KHS team manager] Quinton Spaulding.” To ensure the accuracy of all times, the experienced Team Big Bear has been brought in to conduct the timing. And in keeping with St. Patty’s Day tradition, there will be post-race parties at the Boulder Dam Brewery and The Other Side in Boulder City. It charts the early years of MTB, with contributions from guys you’ll never otherwise have heard of like Otis Guy (one of the very very early adopters of full-suss MTB’s!) As the Klunkerz site says: Klunkerz is the definitive film about Mountain Bikes, the story of how a bunch of scruffy hippies gave birth to what became a multi-million dollar olympic sport. With contributions from bike legends Charlie Kelly, Gary Fisher and many more, all with the most amazing action! It’s one of my personal favourites, and I was recently chatting with Director Billy Savage on FaceBook, after the conversation he sent me a copy of his Press Release;
